Default Login Credentials for Yi Cameras

Yi cameras are popular, low-cost smart home and SMB security cameras made with an emphasis on mobile access and cloud availability. Traditional IP cameras are built around the idea of a website panel on the local network with a known ID/password as the default login, but Yi cameras lean toward the convenience of mobile apps and cloud accounts. This makes Yi systems easier for the typical consumer but leaves installers, network administrators, and more experienced end users asking about the login, ports, IP addressing, and local presence of the camera. Understanding how things should work out of the box prevents confusion during installation, while troubleshooting and using third party tools with the cameras.

There are a few key variations from traditional CCTV brands in the name of simplicity and security. There is no printed admin login on the device, and the majority of configuration depends on creating an account. However, Yi cameras are on a local network, use common ports and are found by routers and network tools. This article describes how Yi camera login actually works, and what is defaulted.

Default IP

Yi Cameras don't have a static default IP. When you power it up and connect it to a network, the camera makes a request for an address from the router using DHCP. The address is allocated based on how the local network is set up, so even identical cameras on different networks will almost never have the same address.

How do I find my camera's IP address? You can usually find the current IP address by opening the router client list or looking at a connected mobile device through a mobile app, or scan the network with a scanner. Normally, when using the camera on a daily basis, you don't need to know the IP as you can see Live View and the settings through the Yi App.

  • No static factory IP address
  • IP is assigned automatically via DHCP
  • IP can change after reboot or router restart

Default Username

Yi cameras do not have a real local username for normal operation. There is no default admin or user login for a web UI because most models do not show one. Instead you log in with the yi account created when you set it up in the phone app, and your login is the email address or phone number you signed up with.

Except for some legacy or modified firmware versions offering limited local services, all versions of Yi firmware do not require a documented default user name for end users. This minimizes the chance of unauthorized access using brute force.

  • No default local username
  • Login is tied to Yi cloud account
  • User identity is managed through the mobile app

Default Password

A default password is not printed on Yi cameras and not communicated with multiple devices. When you're setting up your new Yi account, you will make a password on the account and will use that to log in to the camera via the cloud. The camera itself has paired to your account with QR codes or app pairing steps.

A reset of your Yi camera does not give you a factory password as it just gets rid of the camera from the account and you have to add it again. The password can be recovered using the normal account recovery mechanisms like email.

  • No universal factory password
  • Password is user defined during account creation
  • Device pairing replaces classic password login

Default Port

Yi cameras have cloud communication over a secured outbound connection. The main outbound port is port 443 for https, which is used to enable video streaming, notifications, and to remote control the camera through the application. Sometimes an auxiliary outbound port may be used for video relay or peer to peer video, but this is handled by the firmware automatically.

Remote viewing does not require opening the router's inbound ports on Yi cameras. With the local network traffic, there could be some common protocols, I.e., sent for discovering devices, but not for browsable access on browsers. This greatly enhances security and makes installation and setup easy in home networks.

  • Main communication port: 443 HTTPS
  • No inbound port forwarding required
  • Ports are managed automatically by the system
