UniFi (Ubiquiti) Camera Login: Default IP, Username, Password, Port
UniFi cameras by Ubiquiti are widely used in homes, businesses, and enterprise environments thanks to their tight integration with the UniFi Protect ecosystem. Unlike many traditional IP cameras, UniFi cameras do not follow a simple plug-and-play model with a fixed local web login. Instead, they are designed to be managed centrally through UniFi Protect, which can be hosted on dedicated hardware or a UniFi OS device. This approach improves security and scalability, but it can also confuse new users who are searching for default IP addresses, usernames, and passwords.
This guide explains how UniFi camera login works in practice. You will learn what the default IP behavior is, whether there is a default username or password, which network ports are used, and how to access your camera safely. If you are setting up a UniFi camera for the first time or troubleshooting access issues, this article will give you a clear and realistic overview.
Default IP
UniFi cameras do not ship with a fixed default IP address like many standalone CCTV cameras. By default, a UniFi camera is set to obtain an IP address automatically using DHCP. When you connect the camera to a network with a DHCP server, typically your router or UniFi gateway, the device requests an IP address and receives one dynamically.
Because of this design, the actual IP address of a UniFi camera depends on your local network configuration. You can usually find the assigned IP address in one of the following ways:
- Inside the UniFi Protect interface under the camera details section.
- In the UniFi Network application by checking the client list.
- Through your router’s DHCP lease table.
If no DHCP server is available, the camera may fall back to a link-local address in the 169.254.x.x range, but this is intended only for temporary diagnostics. In normal operation, UniFi cameras are always expected to be adopted by UniFi Protect and managed centrally rather than accessed directly by IP.
Default Username
UniFi cameras do not have a traditional default username for direct web login. There is no standard admin or user account that allows you to sign in to the camera itself through a browser. Instead, authentication is handled by the UniFi Protect system.
When a camera is adopted, it becomes associated with the UniFi Protect controller and inherits access control from the UniFi OS user accounts. These user accounts are created by the system owner and can be assigned specific roles and permissions, such as view-only access or full administrative control.
This model removes the risk of widely known default usernames being exploited and ensures that all access is logged and centrally managed. To log in and manage cameras, you must sign in to UniFi Protect using your UniFi OS credentials, not a camera-specific username.
Default Password
There is no default password for UniFi cameras. Unlike many IP cameras that ship with simple factory credentials, UniFi cameras are designed without local login passwords. Security is enforced at the controller level rather than on the camera itself.
During initial setup, the UniFi Protect application establishes a secure connection with the camera and provisions it automatically. From that point on, all authentication is handled through the UniFi OS account system. Passwords are set by the administrator when creating UniFi users and are never hardcoded into the camera.
If you forget your UniFi OS password, you must recover or reset it using the UniFi OS recovery options. Resetting the camera itself will not restore any default password, as none exists.
Default Port
UniFi cameras do not rely on a single exposed default port for user login. Instead, communication between the camera and UniFi Protect happens over several internal service ports that are managed automatically by the system.
From a user perspective, access to live view, recordings, and camera settings is done through the UniFi Protect web interface or mobile app. This interface typically runs over HTTPS on port 443 of the UniFi OS device hosting Protect. Some UniFi OS consoles may also use alternative ports internally, but these are not intended for manual configuration in most deployments.
Direct RTSP streams may be available for specific use cases, such as integration with third-party systems, but even these streams are controlled through UniFi Protect settings rather than a camera login page. For security reasons, opening ports manually is generally discouraged unless you fully understand the network implications.
