Instead of being accessed directly through a local web interface, Samsara cameras communicate securely with the Samsara cloud, where video streams, recordings, and settings are managed.
This design removes the need for exposed local credentials and reduces the risk of unauthorized access. It also changes how concepts like default IP addresses, usernames, and passwords apply. In most cases, these traditional defaults simply do not exist for Samsara cameras.
Default IP Address
Samsara cameras do not have a publicly accessible default IP address in the way standard IP cameras do. When connected to a network, the device receives an internal IP address dynamically via DHCP. This address is used only for internal communication within the network and for establishing an outbound encrypted connection to the Samsara cloud.
There is no fixed or manufacturer-set IP address that can be typed into a browser to access the camera. Even if the local IP address is known, the camera does not provide a traditional web login page. All configuration and viewing are performed through the Samsara dashboard.

Default Username

Each person who needs access is assigned a unique user account with specific permissions. These accounts are tied to email addresses and roles, such as administrator, manager, or viewer. This approach improves accountability and makes it easy to revoke access without touching the physical device.
Default Password
Because there is no local username, there is also no default password for a Samsara camera. The device itself does not expose a password-protected web interface. All authentication happens through the Samsara cloud using secure login methods.
Passwords are created by users during account setup and are subject to Samsara security requirements. In many deployments, single sign-on and multi-factor authentication are enabled, adding another layer of protection that traditional camera passwords cannot provide.
Default Port
Samsara cameras do not rely on user-configurable inbound ports such as port 80, 554, or 8080. There is no RTSP or HTTP service exposed for direct viewing. Instead, the camera establishes an outbound encrypted connection to Samsara servers over standard secure ports.
This design simplifies firewall configuration. As long as the network allows outbound HTTPS traffic, the camera can communicate with the cloud. There is no need to open or forward ports, which significantly reduces attack surfaces.
