Bosch IP Camera: Default IP, Username, Password, Port
Bosch IP cameras are common across enterprise, industrial and critical infrastructure video surveillance systems. Due to their reliability and the range of analytics Bosch cameras offer they are almost always found within a professional security system along with Video Management Software, NVR's, or Authentication services. However for many installers, administrators there are occasions when you need to be able to access the actual device directly using web browser and or device management application. Understanding the typical default IP address of Bosch Cameras, and what the default username and password is, as well as port addresses you use to connect can help significantly speed up and secure installation.
Default IP
All of Bosch IP cameras come by default configured as DHCP. DHCP makes the camera automatically obtain an IP address from a DHCP server, such as those found on many common routers when a camera is plugged into such a network. This results in a camera having an IP address in the common 192.168.x.x range according to your network. Enterprise environments generally implement managed networks; therefore; default to DHCP.
If no DHCP server is available, many Bosch cameras will configure an IP address within a 169.254.x.x (Link Local) private range, allowing the technician to connect directly to the camera with a laptop without having to set up another device to proxy through. Older Bosch models can also use static factory default IP addresses, such as 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, however newer firmware will prefer DHCP and/or link-local addressing.
To locate the assigned IP, installers commonly:
- check the router or DHCP server client list;
- use Bosch Configuration Manager software;
- scan the local network for new devices.
Once discovered, the IP can be changed to a static address appropriate for the surveillance VLAN or camera subnet.
Default Username
Bosch cameras do not work with one global access login; they function with role-based access accounts. In most newer models, a default administrator username service can be used for the very first access using the web interface. Some firmware allow login the default administrator with the username admin. Default accounts can be disabled, and user will be prompted to setup a new one when first use in an enterprise deployment.
Common username behavior:
- Initial admin account - service
- Alternate legacy account - admin
- After setup - custom administrator defined by installer
Since Bosch systems are usually installed in controlled, regulated environments, administrators replace default users with institution/corporate-based accounts or authenticate against a video management system.
Default Password
The current firmware on Bosch cameras implements a secure login procedure, which commonly asks for the creation of a password upon the first login into the camera. Most of the cameras are shipped without a sensible default password and asks the installer to create one on the very first login into it, thereby not exposing the cameras to unsecured networks.
On some earlier models or reset devices, the default password may be:
- service
- admin
- blank (no password)
All Bosch cameras will start to enforce strength of credentials after the first configuration and can/will lock out accounts due to repeated unsuccessful attempts to login. If credentials are forgotten a hard reset will reset the camera back to a factory onboarding state instead of reset the password to a simpler default.
Security recommendations include:
- create a strong administrator password
- disable unused default accounts
- assign separate viewer and operator roles
Default Port
Bosch IP cameras can communicate on different network services for management and video-streaming, but for integrating Bosch cameras on a third-party application there are specific features available. These network services by default use the "industry standard" ports which work together perfectly fine with a VMS or on a network infrastructure.
Typical default ports include:
- 80 - HTTP web interface
- 443 - HTTPS secure web interface
- 554 - RTSP video streaming
- 1756 - Bosch video service port
- 3702 - ONVIF discovery
Typically in secure installations, HTTP will be disabled and HTTPS used instead. RTSP and ONVIF ports may be kept enabled so the recorders and VMS may connect into and integrate with the cameras. In a corporate environment, the vast majority of cameras are not " port forwarded", they will access each other over internal surveillance infrastructure and not to the outside world.
