ONVIF IP Camera: Default IP, Username, Password, Port

ONVIF IP cameras follow a shared interoperability standard, which allows devices from different manufacturers to work together on the same network. Although every brand can implement its own interface and features, many ONVIF compliant cameras rely on similar default network settings and login credentials. Knowing these defaults is helpful when you install a new camera, try to access the configuration page after a reset, or troubleshoot connectivity issues. Because ONVIF does not define a universal login pattern, the defaults often come from the manufacturer, but there are several common values that appear across many devices. Understanding them will help you get into the camera interface quickly and secure the device before placing it online.

Default IP Address

Many ONVIF IP cameras come with a preset address that allows direct access during the first installation. One of the most common addresses is 192.168.1.10, which works well with most home network settings. Some manufacturers use 192.168.0.100 or 192.168.1.108 as an alternative. If your camera is already connected to a router, it may switch to DHCP and receive its IP automatically, so you will need to check the router's device list or use an ONVIF Device Manager to identify the current address. After discovering the correct IP, you can open it in a browser and proceed to the login screen.

Default Username

Most ONVIF cameras rely on a simple default username to make the setup process fast and intuitive. The most widespread value is admin, used by a large number of generic and brand name ONVIF models. Some devices may also use user or a manufacturer specific name, but admin remains the closest thing to a standard login identifier in the ONVIF ecosystem. If the device was already configured by someone else, the username might have been changed, in which case a factory reset is needed.

Default Password

The most common default password for ONVIF IP cameras is admin. Other popular factory values include 12345, 123456, or a blank password on the first login. Many ONVIF compatible manufacturers require the user to create a new password immediately during the initial setup wizard. If the default password does not work, a previous user may have changed it. Resetting the camera usually restores the original password and brings back access to the configuration menu.

Default Port

ONVIF cameras typically serve their web interface through port 80, which is the standard HTTP port used by most network devices. Some models may use port 8899, 8080, or a custom manufacturer assigned value. For ONVIF service itself, many devices use port 8000 or 8080 for communication with NVRs and third party software. If the browser does not load the interface through port 80, the port might have been modified earlier, so restoring factory settings is often the fastest way to return the device to default behavior.

FAQs

Your network may be using a different address range or the camera may have switched to DHCP. Check your router's connected device list or run an ONVIF discovery tool to locate the correct IP.
The password was likely changed during a previous setup. Performing a hardware reset on the camera restores the factory credentials, allowing you to log in again.
No, ONVIF does not enforce a universal login. Many brands use admin admin, but others use different patterns. Always check your device label or restore the camera to factory settings if unsure.
Yes, if you want to access the camera from outside your local network, you need to forward port 80 or the specific port used by your device. Some apps also require forwarding the ONVIF service port.
